EXECUTIVE FUNCTION
Students can feel like they are working hard but the results don’t reflect their efforts. Many students struggle with time management, prioritizing tasks, starting a big project or essay.
They may rush to complete homework at the last minute or not finish it at all. Perhaps they are disorganized, their notebooks and papers scattered. These are just a few examples of Executive Function (EF) skills, and students will learn their specific EF strengths and areas that need development.
Students are taught specific, targeted strategies to build their Executive Function skills. They learn the most effective ways to take notes, study for a test, stay organized, write a paper, etc.
With weekly sessions and mid-week quick check-ins, we ensure that students are following these strategies consistently. And, with regular practice, students strengthen their Executive Skills and gradually internalize these strategies, leading to greater self-confidence and empowerment.
WRITING DEVELOPMENT
Writers practice the writing process of brainstorming, organizing a first draft, revising and drafting to reach the final product. Using proven strategies to teach writing, we guide students as they become confident writing insightful and well developed essays. Struggling writers gain the confidence and knowledge they need to write, and more skilled writers hone their work to develop complexity in organization and critical thought.
ACADEMIC SUPPORT
With guidance and support, students learn how to better understand the content across many academic subject areas. Students practice strategies to increase their comprehension of readings, lectures and class material, which leads to a deeper understanding and grasp of the subject matter.
COLLEGE ESSAYS AND APPLICATIONS
Students receive specialized writing help and guidance in completing their college applications. With coaching from an experienced writing specialist, they become even more proficient in the writing process as they write their most authentic essays. Step by step, they are supported as they brainstorm, draft, revise and finalize their college essays.
